January No custom content or mods in my game. I saw the other thread about terrain paints disappearing, but I thought I would provide some more detail in hopes that the issue will make the official list of bugs.
After painting the lawn with a few varioius terrain paints, they suddenly stopped showing up on the lot. I was painting in areas with lots of objects and I was also layering them to get a more organic look. You can hear them "spray" and they are actually leaving a mark on some plane because I found this crappy workaround:. Lay down flooring 2. Spray the terrain paint over the tile. Remove the tile. Now the terrain paint will show up - but only in squares where there was previously tile.
Thank you for all your hard work keeping track of this stuff! I just wanted to provide another little update on something that happened to me today. I spent about hmm, an hour spraying down a soil terrain paint underneath my plants for a realistic look on my lot.
I made sure to save the game about 20 times during the process, because this game likes to crash on me frequently. I finish my work. I save again. I submit to Gallery. I go to create a family to move into the lot, the game crashes. I reload the game, and all the terrain paint detailing I put down is gone. The good news is that after another fresh restart, I re-placed the lot that I had saved to the Gallery on a new empty lot and it did load up my paint job.
The objects were missing still, but it was luckily just a few flower pots and plants. The only thing I can think of was that I had "bb.
If so, I will update the thread. Once again I have no mods or CC in the game because the game has so many bugs at this point that I'd be stupid to give myself more trouble. March GoodMeowToYou Is this still an issue for you? One thing I will note however, is that MOO'd objects disappearing upon loading a save game is a common occurrence. In order to prevent it, it is actually better if you not only save with bb. For instance, what I do is to load my save, enter an unrelated lot, turn bb.
Since following that routine, I have not lost any MOO'd objects. I have never lost any terrain paint though, under any conditions. May - last edited May This was an issue for me today, working on the "Nookstone" lot in Oasis Springs. I have never used MOO or mods. I seemed to have "fixed" this for now in my own game, just wanted to report my experience as it looks like this could still be an issue for some people. I saved several times as I was working with terrain paint and had no issues while I was working with it.
Saved multiple times using the "save" option and when leaving the lot saved again with "save and manage worlds". Went back in to the lot from manage worlds and part of my terrain paints were deleted. It looked like it had taken it back by several saves, the terrain paint on the lot was in a state that I'd tried about mid-project and not liked, so I'd painted over it with something else.
Its not just the paints that were layered that were impacted, there were parts of the lot that I'd only ever used one terrain paint on and the terrain paint was completely gone. I quit without saving, logged out and back in to Origin, repaired the game, re-entered the lot, and it was still in the state where half of the terrain paint had disappeared.
I used the terrain paint eraser to completely erase all terrain paint from the lot, and I started over. Once finished, I saved, everything looked good, went to "save and manage worlds", from manage worlds I went back in to the lot and the terrain paint had reverted again, it looked exactly like the first time it had jumped back - so everything I supposedly erased had popped back and my new work was gone.
Fortunately I had saved a copy of my new attempt to my library the one where I'd deleted all terrain paint from the lot and started over prior to leaving the lot. I completely bulldozed the lot then downloaded my saved copy onto the lot from build mode.
I moved a sim in, played for a while, saved, completely exited the game, and then restarted the game and went back in to the lot - so far its still good. Hopefully it doesn't happen again, no idea what caused it other than to say for those that have had this that say the game doesn't seem to like a lot of layers of paint, I think they may be correct.
Also, none of my objects disappeared, only the terrain paint had issues. Help us improve Answers HQ! Take Survey No, Thanks. Sign In or Register. See details Show less. Turn on suggestions. Certain objects, especially outdoor plants, can only be place on empty terrain unless cheats are used ; likewise, some objects can only be placed on floor tiles and cannot be placed on terrain.
There are also certain interactions and activities limited to empty terrain that can't be performed anywhere else, including but not limited to catching insects or bugs , collecting , doing various snow activities making snow angels, building snowmen and having snowball fights , having water balloon fights, watching stars, etc. In The Sims , terrain editing is very simplistic compared to later games. Players can raise, lower, and level the terrain as a basic form of terraforming, although Sims will typically have difficulty using objects placed on a slope.
In addition, players cannot build walls near or on sloped tiles, nor can they add floor tiles of any kind. When the player adjusts the terrain, the grass will die off and will grow back on its own over time. Terraforming costs a small amount of money to complete depending on the extent of the changes done to the terrain. With Hot Date , [ confirmation needed ] players could add water to the terrain previously, this was only possible through the use of cheats that allowed for natural ponds and rivers.
Hot Date also introduced a grass tool that allows the player to add or remove grass manually. Unlike later games, Sims do not have the option to cloud watch or stargaze on empty terrain. If Vacation is installed, Sims can build snowmen or sandcastles on terrain, depending on which area of Vacation Island they were on. They can also rent a metal detector and will roam around the lot, uncovering buried items on empty terrain.
Terrain editing in The Sims 2 is more variable than in The Sims. Editing the terrain no longer kills off grass, and floor tiles can be placed on sloped terrain. In addition, while The Sims was limited to basic hills, slopes, and valleys, The Sims 2 allows for much more extreme slopes and creations to be made.
Players can level and smooth the terrain in addition to being able to raise and lower it. The Sims 2 also introduces a "Flatten Lot" tool that will instantly level the lot when used. Like in The Sims: Hot Date , ponds can be created anywhere on the terrain. The Sims 2 also introduces terrain paints that allow for the terrain to be customized.
By default, lots will take on the terrain type of the neighborhood it is placed in. For example, a lot placed in a desert-themed neighborhood will have desert terrain paint by default. Players can override the default terrain and paint their own using the "Terrain Brush" tool in build mode. Only exposed terrain that is, terrain not covered by floor tiles can be painted.
Terrain paint can be removed later on by selecting the tool and ctrl-clicking on the terrain paint. FreeTime introduced the modifyNeighborhoodTerrain cheat, which allows the player to adjust the height of terrain in the neighborhood view.
Sims can watch clouds during the day and stargaze at night; these interactions can be done on empty terrain located outdoors. Weeds can grow from puddles left on empty terrain, which will need to be pulled. In The Sims 2 , certain insects may spawn depending of the time on the day: butterflies by day and fireflies by night.
